Believe in ghosts? Paranormal disturbances are documented throughout history with little to no explanation. We’ll discuss six types of hauntings here. You may have even experienced one of these hauntings for yourself…

Many of these explanations were written by Paul Dale Roberts, HPI Ghostwriter and Ghosthunter

Residual Haunting
Residual hauntings occur when something traumatic happens, such as a murder; negative energy leaves an imprint of the event. Like a recorded tape, it will play the events over and over and over again. The entities involved in this residual haunting are unaware of their surroundings. Residual hauntings are not intelligent hauntings because there is no interaction between you and the entity.

Standing outside the massive brick building half covered in vines, it’s easy to imagine the inmates of the old Covington County Jail haunting its abandoned cells – their moanings of perceived injustice echoing down the hallways.

Imagine no more, because according to the Alabama Paranormal Research Team, it’s a fact the old county jail is haunted – and they have the audio and video to back it up.

The group, which is based from Salem, Ala., was invited to the county by local historical society member Sue Bass Wilson and a local police officer, Roger Cender. There was no charge for the visit and each member works on a volunteer basis.

Faith Serafin, co-founder of the team, said she and five other team members made two trips to the old jail and were quite surprised at what they found inside. [...]

A Wedding Day Ghost Photo

NOTE: the photo was submitted to Paranormal.About.com. The commentary from the owner of the photo and a reader feedback is interesting. What do you think? ...Lon

This is a photo of my aunt's wedding day. The year was 1942, and the photo was taken with a box camera. On some of my feedback I'm told it's not really there! Well, I know it is. This picture has been passed down. Please give me some feedback. I would like too see what everyone thinks. It was taken in Jasper, Alabama. -- Liz

It's an interesting photo. We have three possibilities:

1. It's an extraordinary case of pareidolia -- an illusion.
2. It's a hoax -- a very clever and well-executed one -- created with image editing software.
3. It's a genuine ghost.

I'm not ready to say it's a genuine ghost. And I think it's too detailed to be pareidolia. So I suspect -- and Liz, forgive me if I'm wrong -- that this is a manipulated photo. And my main reason for sayi

Scotland's Fernie Castle Hotel.... Heed 'The Green Lady'

You would expect it to be shrouded with a tree or two, or hidden by ivy crawling up the walls. At the very least, you would expect it to be dark, gloomy and grey. However, it is not. And as you drive up the winding trail you can’t help but be a little disappointed. The green shrubbery is pleasant and draws your eyes to the imposing, but not really frightening, stark white structure that is Fernie Castle Hotel, near Cupar in Fife.

It doesn’t look at all haunted. In fact, it looks positively welcoming - and yet, the hotel ghost is well known in these parts.

The reception has plush, comfy sofas decked out in Latin writing and gilded mirrors above the open fireplace. But there is something in the air that says "This place has a history." An eerie chill breezes past every so often. You get the feeling that Fernie Castle has something to tell.

Manager Neil Blackburn isn't the least bit perturbed by the fact he works in haunted hotel. But then, he's use

Searching For Ghosts On Cannery Row

The good news is that the Willy's Smokehouse kitchen is absolutely free of ectoplasmic goo. Which is phenomenal, since — as anyone who's seen "Ghostbusters" knows — getting "slimed" is one of the foremost hazards of paranormal investigation (that, and having a major metropolis terrorized by a giant, marshmallowy mascot).

And the bad news? Well, there really isn't any. If there are ghosts at the Cannery Row barbecue joint, they seem content carrying out harmless — albeit mysterious — doings.

That's the verdict of NorCal Paranormal Investigators, a San Francisco Bay Ar

The woman dressed in long skirt, crisp blouse, bow tie, blue boater hat and scarf appears to be shimmering above the pavement. She was captured by the Google Street View cameras in Tiger Bay, Cardiff - the scene of murders and unsolved mysteries going back 200 years.

The water sculpture seen in the picture is used as the gateway to enter the fictional world of Dr Who spin-off Torchwood.

Local medium Jane Cohen, 39, said: "Apparitions have often been caught on film but are invisible to the naked eye. "This woman is very smart - but she is dressed in clothes that you just don't see these

Museum's Spirits Play Out the Past

Hunters shifted quietly on cold, white tile or slick hardwood floors. Very rarely would anyone speak above a whisper. Their ears and eyes kept alert listening for an unexplained sound.“Did someone do something unjust to you” one person asked. There was no audible response because the entity being questioned was possibly one of the many ghosts that reside on the third floor of the Vaughan Smitherman Museum.Friends of the Vaughan Smitherman Museum sponsored the Paranormal Weekend, which was held Friday and Saturday at the museum.Though there were plenty of seasoned veteran ghost hunters, there
